  • Okay I was utterly disgusted today walking down the streets of manhattan.

They were giving away free gum near where I work because Extra came out with a new flavor.  And literally the three blocks around where the guy was giving out the gum were covered with little pink gum wrappers.

I saw 8 people just drop the wrappers on the floor right in front of me.  There are garbage cans on every single block in the city - how hard is it to walk the 10 steps to the garbage can and throw it out?  I just don't understand how people can have absolutely no sense of responsibility or pride in the city where they work / live.  No wonder NYC is a dump.

I guess I'm a little sensitive to this, but I know that in Japan for instance, no one would dream of just dropping something on the ground like that.  And for the most part, they don't have public garbage cans available there. (I heard it had to do with someone leaving a bomb in one once).

  • 51 days.....eep eep and I haven't had a chance to work out at all in the last month.  I'm horrible. Absolutely horrible.

  • Cingular sucks.  I can't believe the whole entire network has been down for over 5 hours (that's just the time I've been aware of the problem so it could be even longer than that!)

  • Gasp - 82 days to the wedding and counting.....

so - that leaves me with less than 3 months to lose - 13 lbs!

so here are the things I'm giving up for the next 79 days (I'm totally not limiting myself at the rehearsal dinner or the wedding!):

    • butter

    • dinner rolls, crescents, bagels - basically anything that's just bread for the sake of itself.  Sandwiches are still okay

    • fatty meats like...kalbi, sam gyup sal, ribeye steak (*cry*)

    • street food

    • cheese

    • cookies and chocolate

    • ice cream

    • chips, crackers, and other processed snacks

mm I may add to this after I start observing other things that are not good

Also - will work out at least 3 times a week even if Janie can't come over to motivate me...

  • Okay I couldn't resist.  I've been building some scrapbook pages of my neice and nephew lately, and came across these pictures that were absolutely irresistible. =)

Oh - also - picture of me and rob in Atlanta last summer:

  • Tagged by mee2u2  (thanks a lot Joan >.<)

The Rules: if you get tagged, you must post an entry listing five "weird habits" that you possess. Then, pick five more people to tag, and list their names at the end of the entry. Leave a comment on their sites, saying "you've been tagged" and tell them to read your weblog for the rules. (ummm yeah, I don't really know people to tag, so I'm not going to bother)

    1) my feet get claustrophobic I have a pair of open-toed shoes at work so that I can change into them in case I'm wearing boots to work that day.  I generally wear open-toed shoes up to mid-November and then again starting in early March.

    2) I like popping zits, plucking hairs, cleaning earwax - anything that's related to personal grooming.  It's strangely therapeutic.

    3) I eat my ramen with the noodles and soup separated - actually I didn't used to do this until I started dating Rob, but this is how he eats it, and now I can't go back.

    4) I read my favorite books over and over  I think the most I've ever read a book is 18 times now.  This month I've read the same 4 books over about 3 times.  I don't really read the whole book through each time, but I'll read at least 1/3 of it in detail.  For some reason - it never really gets old...and I tend to forget things and be surprised by it even after the 8th time through...maybe I should have my memory checked.

    5) I'm compulsive about video games  I'll start a game over 4-5 times just because I missed a particular event or I didn't get full completion on the first part of the game.  This is probably why I've only ever actually completed a game 5% of the time.  That, and I tend to always go for games that have no real ending, like the Sims.

  • Back from Puerto Rico!  A vacation away from the city was my birthday/anniversary present from Rob and I have to say the best one yet! (hehe he's basically escalated my expectations....Aruba next year, maybe Crete?)

So pictures, so I can make everyone feel jealous ~~

The beach by the Intercontinental resort where we stayed - it's called Isla Verde:

It's a little commercial feeling because of all the resors out by that area, but you can go jetskiing and parasailing here.  And the beach & water are beautiful.

It generally rained at least once a day while we were out there but it cleared up within the hour.  Rob & I decided to wait it out under a canopy by the pool ~ very relaxing to see the falling raindrops and romantic too =)

This is the cemetary in Old San Juan.  It's right by the Castillo del Morro, with a great view of the ocean.

One of the buildings in the cemetary ~ gorgeous view of the ocean behind it.

The city wall on the southwestern side of Old San Juan.

One of the turrets in the Castillo del Morro.

We took a twilight kayaking tour of the Bioluminescence Bay in Fajardo.  You have to leave after it gets dark, and take kayaks to get to the lagoon so that you don't pollute the water.  Rob and I had a lot of trouble getting coordinated at first which is why we tended to run into the trees on the sides of the canal pretty often, but finally after much trial and error we managed to make it back from the lagoon in reasonably good time.

Tiny micro-orgs called dinoflagellites light up like lightning bugs as you agitate the water by swimming or rowing by.  You can't really get any good pictures because it's pitch black out and you'd ruin your camera by getting it soaked on the way there, but this picture I found on the web shows what it looks like.  I highly recommend it to anyone going to Puerto Rico.  One thing though - do not take the motor boats that take you out there.  They're illegal, and they're polluting the very thing you're going out there to see, which kills the dinoflagellites and then no more biobay.  Please kayak if you plan on going.

The third day, we decided to head out to Culebra island which off the eastern side of Puerto Rico proper.  There's a ferry which takes you across from Fajardo pretty inexpensively, but we missed it since it goes at 9 am and you have to line up at 8 am and it takes an hour to get there from where we are.  We decided to take a charter plane over instead, and you go in these tiny planes that rock at any hint of wind.  Still, it's a great experience and one that you won't forget - plus you get great aerial views of the island.

This is the view from the plane.  This island isn't Culebra, it's a tiny one just off the coast of Fajardo.

Here's an aerial shot of Culebra.  Culebra is home to one of the top 5 best rated beaches in the world - Flamenco Beach. Unfortunately we couldn't get a good shot of it from the plane...

Once we got to the island, we decided to rent a scooter to get to the beaches.  Rob had a little trouble getting started, but once he got the hang of it, it was a lot of fun.  Although scary because there are a lot of hills & curves.  Luckily there weren't many cars on the roads.

Flamenco Beach really is gorgeous.  Clean sands, clear blue waters, and hardly any waves.  Plus it's almost completely deserted.  This is just a random couple on the beach, but I thought they looked quite picturesque.

This is us in the water~

Hehe, our shadows in the water =p

Near sunset on the beach - you can see how deserted it was.  It was the perfect ending to a perfect trip.

  • Okay so I've been really into scrapbooking lately.  I'm working on a wedding scrapbook for my brother & his new wife. I haven't kept with a particular theme though, because I wanted to try out different things.  I'm kind of running out of ideas, but anyway, tell me what you think?

  • uh....so - anyone need hotel reservations for the weekend of June 10 - 12?  I have this prepaid reservation to the Westin Atlanta Airport hotel and I just found out that I can get a cool package deal at another hotel.  2 nights for $130, any takers?
