Back from Puerto Rico! A vacation away from the city was my birthday/anniversary present from Rob and I have to say the best one yet! (hehe he's basically escalated my expectations....Aruba next year, maybe Crete?)
So pictures, so I can make everyone feel jealous ~~
The beach by the Intercontinental resort where we stayed - it's called Isla Verde:

It's a little commercial feeling because of all the resors out by that area, but you can go jetskiing and parasailing here. And the beach & water are beautiful.

It generally rained at least once a day while we were out there but it cleared up within the hour. Rob & I decided to wait it out under a canopy by the pool ~ very relaxing to see the falling raindrops and romantic too =)

This is the cemetary in Old San Juan. It's right by the Castillo del Morro, with a great view of the ocean.

One of the buildings in the cemetary ~ gorgeous view of the ocean behind it.

The city wall on the southwestern side of Old San Juan.

We took a twilight kayaking tour of the Bioluminescence Bay in Fajardo. You have to leave after it gets dark, and take kayaks to get to the lagoon so that you don't pollute the water. Rob and I had a lot of trouble getting coordinated at first which is why we tended to run into the trees on the sides of the canal pretty often, but finally after much trial and error we managed to make it back from the lagoon in reasonably good time.
Tiny micro-orgs called dinoflagellites light up like lightning bugs as you agitate the water by swimming or rowing by. You can't really get any good pictures because it's pitch black out and you'd ruin your camera by getting it soaked on the way there, but this picture I found on the web shows what it looks like. I highly recommend it to anyone going to Puerto Rico. One thing though - do not take the motor boats that take you out there. They're illegal, and they're polluting the very thing you're going out there to see, which kills the dinoflagellites and then no more biobay. Please kayak if you plan on going.

The third day, we decided to head out to Culebra island which off the eastern side of Puerto Rico proper. There's a ferry which takes you across from Fajardo pretty inexpensively, but we missed it since it goes at 9 am and you have to line up at 8 am and it takes an hour to get there from where we are. We decided to take a charter plane over instead, and you go in these tiny planes that rock at any hint of wind. Still, it's a great experience and one that you won't forget - plus you get great aerial views of the island.

This is the view from the plane. This island isn't Culebra, it's a tiny one just off the coast of Fajardo.

Here's an aerial shot of Culebra. Culebra is home to one of the top 5 best rated beaches in the world - Flamenco Beach. Unfortunately we couldn't get a good shot of it from the plane...

Once we got to the island, we decided to rent a scooter to get to the beaches. Rob had a little trouble getting started, but once he got the hang of it, it was a lot of fun. Although scary because there are a lot of hills & curves. Luckily there weren't many cars on the roads.

Flamenco Beach really is gorgeous. Clean sands, clear blue waters, and hardly any waves. Plus it's almost completely deserted. This is just a random couple on the beach, but I thought they looked quite picturesque.

This is us in the water~

Hehe, our shadows in the water =p

Near sunset on the beach - you can see how deserted it was. It was the perfect ending to a perfect trip.
